Soups, sauces, and gravies complement a meal and add a flavorful component to ordinary dishes. Soups also can be eaten as meals themselves. These foods can be made from vegetables or meat drippings. Gravies and sauces also can contain fat from meat that has been fried prior to making these foods.

Some of the companies that make soups, sauces, and gravies available to consumers include Campbell's, Progresso, and Prego, Others include Swanson, Smart Soup, and Healthy Request. These foods can be very basic and range from simple brown gravy and broth to more exotic choices like red wine gravy and chicken corn chowder.

Depending on what they are made with, these foods can contain nutrients that include iron, protein, calcium, folate, and Vitamin B6, among many others. Soups made with tomato bases also contain Vitamin C. While prepared soups, gravies, and sauces are affordable and readily available in grocery stores, other people prefer to make theirs homemade.
